The Chief Executive Officer of Equity Concepts Entertainment cum Founder of Project NWAFOR Igbo, Rowland Okorie, has sang high praise of Umuada Mbaise in Ireland.

This is on the backdrop of Umuada Mbaise Ireland a.k.a NNEDIMMA, the amazons of the Igbo tribe partnering Project NWAFOR Igbo.

Elated Okorie, speaking on the partnership, said; “When you have the support of Umuada Igbo global, when those movers and shakers whom I refer to as the most sophisticated society powerful women, they make things happen at all times. Their endorsement is beyond what money can buy.”

Okorie, also used the opportunity to appreciate and celebrate Umuada Mbaise Ireland for their great win of the cup at the massive event for their contribution.

For those who don’t know, Umuada is an association of influential and powerful indigenous Igbo women. They have been a vital part of the Igbo tribe for centuries Umuada Mbaise Ireland (a vibrant group of world-leading Igbo daughters from Mbaise, Imo State) made a bold outing at Mbaise Europe Convention 2023 in Essen Germany .

It was a display of rich Mbaise and Igbo culture by the members of Umuada Mbaise Ireland. This group goes beyond the first daughters and encompasses all the daughters whose ancestry are traced to a village or town like Mbaise as it is in this case. It is open to all Igbo daughters of Mbaise origin whether married or unmarried, young or old, widows, divorced or estranged They are highly respected at local gatherings and are accorded such in private and public gatherings.

Like Umuada Mbaise, it is perfect to describe the Umuada as a socio-political group that acts as a functional forum for women. Depending on the community, their roles can either be grouped into two: secular or spiritual. The secular roles are almost general and cut across many communities in Igbo land.

They include the settlement of disputes among fellow women and the community, infidelity issues involving offending wives, conflicts involving physical fighting between parties, assault or physical attack of a wife on her mother-in-law, and other issues under these categories which may fall under their jurisdiction.

It can be argued that the Umuada has been instrumental to women empowerment in Igbo land and Nigeria generally thus, important for the feminist movement. The Umuada respects tradition and works under the structures of modernity but remains insistent that men are the heads of the family, leaving them unaffected by modern developments in a way.

In the 21st Century, Igbo women like Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (World renowned Author) have been dominating the global scene.

You can find prominent Igbo women from medical to economic and political sectors contributing significantly on the world stage and Umuada Mbaise are not left out.

Remember the Aba women riot in 1929? That’s the kind of change Umuada can bring. Umuada has gone global! They have learned ways to organize themselves on a global stage like Umuada Mbaise Dublin – a force you can’t ignore.

They are the fastest growing women’s organization, powerful enough to decide where the 2024 Mbaise Europe will hold considering what they displayed in the last Mbaise Convention.
