Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo has lambasted his junior colleague, Uche Maduagwu for calling out Nigerian top actors for abandoning their ailing colleagues.
This is coming after popular actor, John Okafor a.k.a Mr Ibu had cried out to Nigerians for help following his health challenges.
However, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s former media aide, Reno Omokri on Thursday called out former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi for not helping the ailing actor despite supporting his presidential ambition.
Also, Obi Maduagwu equally dragged Nollywood top actors for abandoning their ailing colleagues.
In his reaction, Kanayo O. Kanayo, took to his Instagram page and said; “As actors, our heart goes out to our dear colleague, Mr Ibu. His family has done their best since it was reported last year. And now they have come out to say we have done our best, we need public support.”
“Now, I condemn in strict terms Reno Omokri, who is coming to call Peter Obi’s name and so on. It is not a friendly thing. It’s wicked. And to Uche Maduagwu, who talked about shame on top actors. Shame on you too because you don’t have any value and level to call out our names.”
“It’s an individual thing to support a colleague. It becomes a collective thing as Actors Guild of Nigeria. Don’t forget some people learn to give personally, privately. Even those who have given can also be appreciated on a scale of what they have given to John Okafor.”
“We appreciate your efforts in giving but nobody should use it as a platform to castigate or indict those who have not given. It’s wrong and we don’t support it.”
“So, this is a warning. If you want to give, give.”
For those who don’t know, this is what Reno Omokri wrote via his Twitter “X” page:
“Google it. Mr. Ibu set up a fundraiser for Peter Obi when he was healthy. Billions of Naira were raised from that fundraiser. The least Peter Obi can do is use some of the billions raised from that fundraiser to help Mr. Ibu now that he has health challenges. This is not a matter of insult from you, Obidients. First, get Peter Obi to donate. You can insult me later!”
This is also what Obi Maduagwu said; “Nollywood is an industry where legends are abandoned. Just have small problem and dem go abandon you.”
“Why do you think so many Yoruba movie legends come out to beg for financial assistance?”
“They abandon Aduba for years until OPM Pastor came to help, now they are giving excuses for Mr Ibu, but this man begged for assistance from colleagues.”
“It was when he did not get the help he needed, that was why he came out on social media to beg, why are they now critising me for speaking the truth.”
