The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has stirred reactions with a strong statement about the state of the country.
Speaking at a recent summit, Obi said that if anyone deserves to be in prison for Nigeria’s current challenges, it should be politicians.
Reflecting on a recent visit to the University of Southern California, he said he met several professors and top academic officials who had previously served prison terms but had gone on to make meaningful contributions to society.
According to him, many people in prison may not even deserve to be there in the first place.
hear him; “In university of Southern California, the past few days with them, we have the entire faculty and people who have studied in jail… all the professors. You’ll be shocked what they’ve been able to do.”
“I saw the dean of faculty say he did 28 years. I saw the registrar… everybody, they’ve done years. And it was amazing that they are professors.”
“When you hear what is happening, you realize that many people think that once you go to jail, most of them are even people who are not supposed to be there in the first place.”
“If anybody should be in jail, it is us politicians for what we have done to this country.”
