Popular Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage has made some intriguing revelations about her past and the rise of Afrobeats.
In a recent interview, the award-winning artist who grew up in London, confessed that she once struggled with embracing her African identity.
She said; “I remember growing up in London and not being happy about being African. But now, I’m so proud because of how big Afrobeats has become.”
Tiwa went on to reflect on the global impact of African music.
She said; “There was a time people said Afrobeats would only have its 15 minutes of fame before fading away. But we’re still here, stronger than ever. We’re filling stadiums and topping charts around the world.”
“I don’t know how true this is, but I’ve heard that one in every four Black people is Nigerian or African. So, we’re not going anywhere. No matter how much they try to silence us, the music will never stop. We are Africans and we are unstoppable.”
“Afrobeats is the fastest-growing music genre in the world. We built it from nothing without support, without infrastructure, and without belief, even from our own people at first.”
