Nigerian Afrobeat legend, late Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s son, Seun Kuti has been granted bail by the Chief Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos State on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023.
The court also thwarted an attempt by the police to detain him for 21 days for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
The Police prosecutor, S. A. Adebese had prayed that the court remand the defendant for 21 days.
Adebese said that the three weeks would allow the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to prepare legal advice.
However, the singer’s counsel, Femi Falana (SAN) opposed the plea in his argument.
Falana begged the court not to remand his client. He stated that he was not aware of an application to that effect.
For those who don’t, Seun Kuti was arrested by the police for slapping an officer.
