It is now an established fact that Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Be that as it may, the governor has made it clear to all who care to know the reasons behind his bold decision to leave the opposition party.
Speaking at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday, while receiving his new APC membership card, Fubara said; “This is indeed a spiritual assignment because it concerns the safety, progress, and growth of Rivers State. We cannot pursue a different direction when the President is pursuing another.”
“Joining the APC is part of our commitment to ensure a seamless working relationship and to contribute meaningfully to his reelection efforts in Rivers State.”
For those who don’t know, Fubara announced his defection on Tuesday at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
He said: “We can’t support President Tinubu if we don’t fully identify with him, not just the backyard support. So we have taken that decision here today that everyone who has followed and suffered with me, the decision this evening is that we are moving to the APC.”
With this development, Fubara has now joined Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, and Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri — all of whom have defected from the PDP.
